What Is eGFR?
Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR) is one of the most widely used measurements for evaluating kidney function. It estimates how efficiently your kidneys filter waste products and excess fluids from your bloodstream.
The calculation primarily uses serum creatinine, age, and biological sex to estimate filtration capacity. Results are reported as milliliters per minute per 1.73m² of body surface area.
Healthcare professionals commonly use eGFR to screen for kidney disease, monitor existing kidney conditions, and guide treatment decisions.
